School System To Fill Advisory Committes Openings

There are openings on community committees tasked with reviewing certain programs in place for Harford County Public Schools.

For those with a stake in , openings on community advisory committees could provide the opportunity to influence the school superintendent's decision on certain programs.

The Harford County Board of Education is inviting county residents with or without children in the school system to apply for one of several community advisory committees, according to a release from the school system.

Committee members are assigned to serve between one- and three-year terms and each committee makes recommendations to the superintendent of schools.

There are five committees open for new members: Career and Technology, Family Life Education, Gifted Education, Safety and Security and Special Education Advisory Committees.

The Career and Technology Advisory Committee function as advocates, reviewers and advisors for the school system's career and technology programs, according to the release.

The Family Life Education Advisory Committee participates in decisions about materials used educating students from kindergarten through 12th grade in family life, human development and HIV/AIDS prevention.

The Safety and Security Advisory Committee reviews and gives input on issues and existing policy pertaining to safety and security in schools.

The Special Education Advisory Committee studies the impact of special education services, programs and funding, according to the release.

The deadline to apply is March 16. New members will be confirmed in May.
