4 Patterson Mill Teams in Hunt for States

Field hockey, cheerleading and cross-country teams are bound for state matchups on Saturday.

On Saturday, four teams from Patterson Mill High School will compete across Maryland in the hunt for state championships.

Field Hockey

The Huskies field hockey team will take on North Carroll in the MPSSAA class 1A state final at Washington College, 300 Washington Ave., Chestertown. Game time is 1:30 p.m. and tickets are $8.

In 2010 the Huskies went to the state semifinal but lost to Pocomoke Warriors, 1-0, according to The Aegis, which reported that Huskies coach Shannon Swinscoe said that compared with 2010: "This is the stronger team."

Cheerleading

Meanwhile, the Huskies girls cheerleading team will compete in the Maryland High School Cheerleading Coaches Association State Championships, according to Patterson Mill. That tournament is at Westminster High School, 1225 Washington Rd., Westminster. It begins at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Cross-Country, Boys and Girls

The boys cross-country team competes in the class 2A meet at McDaniel College. That race starts at 3 p.m.

Just before them, the girls cross-country team will also run in the class 2A state meet, at 2 p.m. at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster.
