4th Annual Responsible Dog Ownership Day

A Dog Gone Good Time

Harford County Executive David Craig has proclaimed September 23, 2012 Responsible Dog Ownership Day.  Come celebrate this event by attending The Northeastern Maryland Kennel Club 4th Annual Responsible Dog Ownership Day at the Petsmart in Abingdon between noon and 4 p.m.  Admission is free to the general public.  All well behaved dogs are invited to attend and participate in fun and educational events.

There will demonstrations including Canine Freestyle Dancing, Harford County Sheriff’s Office K9, Search and Rescue, Obedience Training and Meet The Breeds.   Canine College will feature presentations on emergency animal medicine, CPR and first aid, and time to “Ask the Veterinarian” your questions.  There will be displays on pet disaster preparedness, how to greet a dog, and how any dog can enjoy AKC competition events.

Your dog will have an opportunity to earn a Canine Good Citizen certificate.  Friendly evaluators will help you walk through the ten basic stations that every dog should know to be a good citizen in the home and in the community.

You will say “My Dog Can Do That!” after trying AKC events like Rally and Agility.  Trainers will teach owners and their dogs how to do basic skills in these two AKC competitive events. These AKC events are open to all dogs; they no longer need to be pure bred.

There will be ribbons and prizes in the dog costume contest and the Canine Olympics.  Dogs and their owners can play Musical Tails, enter the Bowser’s Butler Race and show off your dog’s best trick.  Children 16 years of age and under can enter a dog photo contest, so kids get your cameras rolling.

There will be free dental checks, nail clipping, trims, and grooming demonstrations. Visit the vendors, take a chance to win a raffle basket, and enjoy the food and ice cream.    Pet photos and microchipping are also available for a small fee.
