Harford Slugger Wins Cal Ripken World Series Home Run Derby

Trent Gast-Woodward of the Hickory Hornets won Friday's home run derby.

The Cal Ripken World Series is underway in Aberdeen, and things got off to a powerful start on Friday night—for one Harford County slugger, in particular.

Trent Gast-Woodward won the home run derby Friday night at Cal Sr.'s Yard, according to Explore Harford. He is the first Harford County representative to win the opening ceremonies challenge in the tournament's history, the report said.

Beginning Friday, 16 teams will compete for a berth in the championship later this month. Two teams from Maryland—a state representative and a Harford County rep—are among the U.S. teams in the competition.

Gast-Woodward is a member of the Hickory Hornets team representing Harford County.
