Bubble Record Attempt Falls Short

Despite falling far short of a world record for most people blowing bubbles, David Anderson's bubble is not burst.

"Just what I got from that experience made my day," Anderson said. "It's something really little that makes a kid smile. Some people like bubbles, some people like bubble gum, lollipops."

Anderson, the Havre de Grace resident and Bel Air business owner who led the , said an estimated 7,088 people blew bubbles at 10 a.m. before the Towson parade on July 4, well short of a world record.

The record is 23,680, set in London in 1999.

Anderson, who owns Red Pump Cafe in Bel Air, had wanted to use the attempt as a way to draw attention to children's issues.

The parade committee purchased 7,000 bottles of bubbles, but volunteers could be seen passing out bottles from satchels as the parade finished shortly after noon.

"We still had bubbles to give out, so I don't even think there was 7,000 people there," Anderson said. "But it was hot. It was one of those things that maybe you'll try again somewhere else."

Anderson thinks he may give the attempt another go someday in Ocean City—where he had been planning to do it before—or at next year's parade in Towson.

For now, he said, he's cherishing the time he spent out at the parade in costume as the "Dominator" character from his comics, and isn't let down by the results from last week. As far as he's concerned, it's mission accomplished.

"Things aren't always going to go as you plan," he said, with a laugh
