Harford County's Wintry Mix Could Drop 14 Inches, Officials Say

The winter storm will begin Sunday and last through Monday.

A winter storm watch is in effect for Harford County from 6 p.m. Sunday to 6 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The watch means potential snow, sleet and ice accumulations may impact travel, according to the National Weather Service. Other areas under the watch include Baltimore, Carroll, Cecil and Frederick counties.

Freezing rain and sleet will likely begin Sunday evening, changing to snow—which could be heavy at times—overnight into Monday, according to the weather service.

The Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association provided this information Saturday evening about the local forecast:

"According to the National Weather Service, they are now looking at 8 to 10 inches of snow for Harford County; however, there is discussion of the potential for up to 14 inches of snow based on the European Model. Cold air will come in behind this storm, bringing single digit temps overnight."

For safety, Harford County Fire and EMS recommended taking the following precautions:

  • Stay off the roads.
  • Keep generators outside and away from the home.
  • Dig out the fire hydrant closest to your home.
  • Ensure the address is clearly visible on the front of your house.
  • Check on elderly neighbors.
