IronBirds Introduce Burritos, Wings & More

The Aberdeen IronBirds will have a variety of new food options by opening day.

Entertaining baseball and family fun isn't all that's on tap when the Aberdeen IronBirds open the 2012 season next month. Ripken Stadium will have a variety of new food choices for fans when the Orioles short-season Class-A affiliate opens on June 20. The IronBirds rolled out two of their new food options—a burrito bar and a chicken wing bar—to members of the Aberdeen business community during the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Tuesday. Aside from the new bars—both of which were met with high praise Tuesday on the club level at the ballpark—the IronBirds will add Conrad's Crabs, The Charred Rib, Seasons Pizza and Rita's Ice. Boys' Lacrosse: Bel Air Edges Dulaney 12-10 (PHOTOS)

The Bobcats advance to the regional finals.

Bel Air High School boys lacrosse has earned a place in the regional finals following a 12-10, hard fought victory at Dulaney High School Monday night. The Bobcats will go on to face Howard High School on Wednesday in Howard County. “I knew coming in it would be a battle,” said Bel Air head coach Scoop Kelly. Bel Air lost to Dulaney earlier in the season by a slim 6-5 margin. “I guess it’s sort of ironic that we finished today 12-10 ... and luckily this time we move ahead in the playoffs,” Kelly said. “We caught the ball a little better. We finished [well]. In general our legs were there and we were a little more hungry than that first game of the year.” Three quick goals at the opening of the match put Dulaney in the hole for most of the …

O, How Sweet It Is

The Orioles have the best record in baseball. Do you care?

The Orioles have the best record in baseball. OK, let that sink in for a second. After defeating the Red Sox in 17 innings Sunday in one of the wackiest games in recent memory, the Orioles return home Monday to host the defending American League Champion Texas Rangers. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Tickets are still available to see Brian Matusz and the Birds try to continue their winning ways. So the question I ask you: do you care? Will there be a buzz at the ballpark tonight? Or will the team struggle to reach half-capacity at the beautiful baseball cathedral like it has for the better part of 14 consecutive losing seasons? The 19-9 Orioles return home on a high—with the best record in the majors. They just …

Why do we continue to "reward" people who do things in bad taste with attention and free press. If the Sun used its free space to give more acknowledgement to deserving athletes . . . local, high school, etc., rather than dunces, fewer acts of disruption might result.   more ›

Scribbles From the Margen

Dundalk Native Wants Town to See Orange

Nancy Cook wants sports fans to embrace the Orioles and 'Orange Wednesdays.'

Now that baseball season is in full swing, Dundalk native Nancy Cook wants to paint the town orange. Recognizing how important the "12th man" is to the Baltimore Ravens, the longtime baseball fan wants the 10th man to step forward and embrace the Baltimore Orioles will equal love and enthusiasm. She wants her beloved boys of summer to feel just a small slice of the love shown for the Ravens. And she wants that love to be showered upon the Birds sooner rather than later. "I want to start Orange Wednesdays," she told Dundalk Patch. "The Ravens have Purple Fridays, and I don't want to interfere with that, because some people wear their purple on Fridays year-round." If Cook has her way, the work day referred to by many as "hump day" will soon…
