Fallston Wins, Beats Out Patterson Mill For State Lacrosse Title

The Harford County teams faced off in the championship game at UMBC Tuesday.

Fallston High School took home the state title in boys lacrosse Tuesday for the second year in a row. The Cougars defeated the Patterson Mill Huskies, 15-5, to secure the 2013 MPSSAA Class 2A/1A boys championship at UMBC Stadium. Were you able to attend the game at UMBC? Bel Air Reaches MPSSAA Baseball State Final

Bel Air and North Hagerstown played in a Class 3A state semifinal on Tuesday.

The Bel Air baseball team returns to Harford County with a chance to win the MPSSAA Class 3A state championship. The Bobcats defeated North Hagerstown, 7-5, Tuesday evening at Joe Cannon Stadium in Anne Arundel County. Bel Air will play at 7 p.m. on Saturday against LaPlata at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen. UCBAC: 11 Region Champs in Harford & Cecil Counties

A by-the-numbers look at the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference's performance in the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association postseason tournament.

Five Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference teams will compete Tuesday in hopes of continuing their quests for a state championship. Two of them will square off for a state title. Conference Commissioner Bob Slagle offered a glimpse at the numbers behind the conference's postseason success: Region champions, according to Slagle, included: "Perryville boys and girls track, Harford Tech girls track, Edgewood boys track, Fallston boys and girls lacrosse, Bo [Manor] and Bel Air baseball, Patterson Mill boys lacrosse, CMW girls lacrosse and Perryville softball." This Week: 5 UCBAC Teams Seek State Titles

The MPSSAA state finals are being held this week in lacrosse, baseball and softball.

The Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference will be guaranteed of at least one trophy returning to Harford and Cecil counties, as five teams compete in the MPSSAA baseball, softball and lacrosse state tournaments. Fallston and Patterson Mill meet in the Class 2A/1A boys lacrosse championship at 6 p.m. Tuesday at UMBC Stadium in Catonsville. Also competing this week are the Bel Air and Bo Manor baseball teams, and the Perryville softball team. They'll play in state semifinals on Tuesday with hopes of reaching the state finals later this week. Bel Air plays North Hagerstown at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Joe Cannon Stadium in Anne Arundel County. Longshot Oxbow Wins Preakness Stakes

Oxbow, a 15-1 longshot, went nearly wire-to-wire to win the 138th Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course on Saturday giving trainer D. Wayne Lukas the all-time lead in Triple Crown race victories with 14. The bay colt, ridden by 50-year old Gary Stevens and owned by Calumet Farm, took the lead early from Goldencents and won the $1 million Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown by 1 ¾ lengths holding off Itsmyluckyday and Mylute in 1:57.54. Oxbow also ended hopes for a Triple Crown winner for another year. Orb, the winner of the Kentucky Derby, never got started from his No. 1 post position and finished a disappointing fourth. When Is the Preakness?

The 138th running of the Baltimore tradition will be held this Saturday.

We're in the final stretch before the 138th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Here's what you need to know. When is it? The Triple Crown race will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Pimlico. NBC (WRC, WBAL) and Horse Racing Radio Network (WSPZ-AM in Washington is the only area affiliate) will have the call, which will also be streaming on the radio network's website. The first post on the day is at 10:45 a.m. Tickets? They are still available. Infield tickets are $60. Admission to the grandstand starts at $25, with box seats starting at $110. Tickets for the infield Mug Club, which include unlimited beer, are sold out. Weather? It's forecast to be partly sunny in Baltimore Saturday, with a high of 78. …

Orioles Seek Nominations for Veterans, Current Service Members

Thirty current or former service members will be honored at the All-Star Game in New York in July.

The Baltimore Orioles are asking fans to nominate a veteran or a currently-serving soldier as part of a tribute across Major League Baseball. The Tribute for Heroes contest will bring one active or veteran service member representing each major league team to the All-Star Game at Citi Field in New York on July 16. Nominations must be made on the contest's website by May 16. In a release, the Orioles encouraged fans to share information about their service member's accomplishments and community service. UCBAC: Bel Air Baseball, CMW Softball Win Divisions

The Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference released final standings on Tuesday.

The C. Milton Wright softball team and Bel Air baseball team won their respective sports' Chesapeake Division regular season titles, earning both a spot in Wednesday's conference championships. C. Milton Wright and Havre de Grace will meet at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Harford Tech, while Bel Air and Bo Manor will square off in a baseball game at 6:30 p.m. at Harford Community College. The MPSSAA is releasing brackets for region tournaments this week. Boys and girls lacrosse brackets came out Monday. Softball will be posted Tuesday, and baseball on Wednesday.
