Aberdeen Police said the man who abducted the mother of Hall of Famer Cal Ripken made stops in Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties.
The man who abducted Vi Ripken made stops in Glen Burnie and Middle River, Aberdeen police said Monday. Police are seeking help from anyone that may have encountered the man on July 24 or July 25. Police said enhanced images were captured of the suspect at Walmart stores in the 6700 block of Chesapeake Center Drive in Glen Burnie and the 100 block of Carroll Island Road in Middle River. » Read all previous articles on the case here. Funeral services and a memorial fund have been set following the death of Aberdeen police officer Charles Armetta Saturday morning. Armetta died when he fell from an elevated section of Interstate 95 early Saturday in Baltimore. A viewing is set for 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday at Schimunek Funeral Home at 9705 Bel Air Rd. in Perry Hall. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen Church at 8030 Bradshw Rd. in Bradshaw. Interment will be held following the funeral service at Bel Air Memorial Gardens at 809 Rock Spring Rd. in Bel Air. The Aberdeen Police Department is in mourning Saturday after the overnight death of a colleague. Officer Charles Armetta died while off duty in Baltimore Saturday morning, Aberdeen police said. Armetta fell from an elevated portion of Interstate 95 around 3:15 a.m., Aberdeen police said. Armetta had recently completed training to lead the department's K-9 unit. Mayor Michael Bennett shared with Patch that he recently witnessed Armetta and Maverick, Aberdeen's police dog, make their first apprehension. At least two Baltimore-area billboards featured the composite sketch of Violet Ripken's alleged abductor. Police released the sketch Tuesday.
A day after it was released by Aberdeen police, a composite sketch of the man who allegedly abducted Vi Ripken appeared on billboards in the Baltimore area. The advertisements—jointly funded by Aberdeen Police Department, Harford County Sheriff's Office, Metro Crime Stoppers and the FBI—appeared on revolving billboards along Interstate 95 and Interstate 83. The billboard, with the black-and-white sketch, read: "WANTED For the Abduction of Violet Ripken Call: (410)-836-5432" The phone number is a 24-7 hotline dedicated to the case.
