Detours Set For Route 715, Route 40 Interchange

Traffic will be detoured in Aberdeen near the Aberdeen Proving Ground main gate.

A major intersection in Aberdeen will undergo a series of detours overnight into Friday morning, Aberdeen police said. From 9 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday, a series of changes will take place at the intersection of U.S. Route 40 and MD Route 715—the interchange near the main gate for Aberdeen Proving Ground. State To Fund Intersection Projects Near APG

Maryland will provide $9 million for road improvements in Aberdeen and Harford County following Aberdeen Proving Ground's BRAC growth.

Maryland will help fund improvements at two Aberdeen intersections with $9 million to increase traffic flow to and from Aberdeen Proving Ground. Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown announced the funding in a news release Monday, providing the state the ability to purchase land and improve the intersection at MD Route 22 and Paradise Road in Aberdeen. It also enables the relocation of utilities and improvement of the intersection at MD Route 22 and Old Post Road. "These funds allow the State to continue moving forward in our drive to bring much-needed road and pedestrian improvements to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds and alleviate congestion on Route 22 in the Aberdeen area," Brown said in a statement. "Our commitment to BRAC remains strong as we …

UPDATED: Man Dies in Collision on Route 22

An accident shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday closed part of Route 22 in Aberdeen.

UPDATED (11:35 a.m.)—A man died Thursday morning after his car collided with a tractor trailer at the intersection of MD Route 22 and Beards Hill Road, according to a news release from the Aberdeen Police Department. Robert Simmons, 47, of Aberdeen, had to be extricated from his sedan by members of the Aberdeen Fire Department. Simmons received treatment at the scene and was transported to Harford Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical officials, according to Lt. Fred Budnick, a spokesman for the Aberdeen Police Department. The tractor trailer was driven by Nelson Chambers, 38, of Mechanicsburg, PA, according to police. Chambers was not injured.
