Bel Air officials meet at Town Hall at 7:30 p.m.
The Bel Air Board of Commissioners Monday approved a $15 million budget for fiscal year 2014 in a unanimous vote. The budget includes a 3 percent cost of living increase for town employees funded largely by highway user revenues—a contribution from the state level that was absent in fiscal year 2013. “I’m glad we can provide a COLA to our employees,” Commissioner David Carey said. Carey added that in addition to allowing for the cost of living increase, the highway user revenues made this year’s budget process easier than in years past. The commissioners all voted in favor of the budget after a public hearing with no comment from the public. Find live updates from the meeting below: 8:21 p.m.: The meeting is adjourned. 8:20 p.m.: …

The sculpture representing the school's mascot is currently without an official name.
A ferocious bobcat now stands watch over Bel Air High School's sports fields. The sculpture, which was funded by more than $50,000 in donations, was installed this week and officially unveiled during a ceremony at the school Tuesday afternoon. Don Dick and his sister matched the money raised by the Bel Air Cultural Arts Commission to help them reach their financial goal. Dick explained he and his sister felt strongly about helping to fund the sculpture, in part, because, "we have lived other places, but Bel Air will always be our home." The bronze bobcat sculpture stands atop a pedestal inside the gates to Bobcat Stadium. The piece, designed by local artist Jim Butcher and completed by a Texas artist, is expected to be dedicated to former …

The Bel Air Town Meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m.
The Town of Bel Air is considering the possibility of declaring surplus a piece of land next to Shamrock Park in order to make a swap with a nearby property owner. The Felton family owns a 30-foot wide strip next Shamrock Park and the Bel Air memorial tree grove. The family wants to exchange a piece of land directly connected to their property in hopes of building a home on the 1.3 acre lot. In exchange, they have offered to remove an existing chain link fence and accept all costs involved in the land swap. Ten years ago, a similar issue arose involving this same property, Louis Juliana said during public comment Feb. 19. Juliana said the piece of land the Felton family wishes to exchange with the town is, "like exchanging an pile of dirt …
