The Bel Air Board Of Commissioners are slated to discuss town finances at Monday's town meeting. Two members of the community spoke out against a proposal to declare a parcel of land surplus and then swap that land with a property owner.
The Town of Bel Air is considering the possibility of declaring surplus a piece of land next to Shamrock Park in order to make a swap with a nearby property owner. Ten years ago, a similar issue arose involving this same property, Louis Juliana said during public comment. Juliana said the piece of land the Felton family wishes to exchange with the town is, "like exchanging an pile of dirt for a pound of gold." Juliana said he and other like-minded town residents don't want the piece of land sold or swapped, but wish it to remain town property. Bel Air officials have a light agenda before them Monday, with a proposed traffic signal at Gateway Drive and Boulton Street marking the only new business. Members of the community have voiced a need for a traffic signal at the intersection located near the Harford Mall in Bel Air. John Meeks of English Country Manor is among the outspoken supporters of a traffic light at the location. Meeks has has long urged the board to install a traffic light at that intersection because of serious traffic problems there. Money for a traffic light was set aside in the FY 2013 town budget. The Bel Air Board Of Commissioners held its regular business meeting Tuesday in light of Monday's holiday. Harford County Executive David Craig outlined his stance on speed cameras—and a number of other topics—on a radio show Tuesday afternoon.
Harford County Executive David Craig claims he's not a speeder—and he doesn't think he needs a camera to prove it. Craig said on a radio show Tuesday afternoon that he has no interest in bringing speed cameras to the county. On WYPR-FM's Midday with Dan Rodricks Tuesday, Craig said: "I was never in favor of speed cameras personally, myself, and neither was our delegation when they voted on that bill years ago.
