Police Investigating Bel Air Abduction, Attempted Sexual Assault

Harford County To Recognize Top Officers In DUI Arrests

The Harford County State's Attorney's Office has recognized drunk and drugged driving enforcement for the past 22 years.

Harford County law enforcement officers strive to keep impaired drivers off the road, and this month the Harford County State's Attorney's Office will recognize the 28 troopers, deputies and officers who officials there say have done it best. State's Attorney Joseph Cassilly will present the awards at 7 p.m. May 15 in the ceremonial courtroom in the Harford County Circuit Court building, according to a release from the state's attorney's office. "Our law enforcement officers are the best in their efforts to maintain safety on the county's roads," Cassilly said in the release. "They are responsible for saving many lives and sparing families the devastation caused by impaired drivers. Harford County is proud to acknowledge their service." …

Registration Begins For Bel Air Police Youth Summer Camp

The camp is designed for kids who are interested in a law enforcement career.

For children interested in law enforcement, the Bel Air Police Department has the ideal, hands-on summer program. Registration for the police youth summer camp opened on the first day of spring, March 20. The program is availabe to boys and girls ages 10 to 14 who are interested in law enforcement as a profession, a release from the police department states. Campers are required to wear a uniform, participate in daily physical training, hands-on demonstrations and hear from different officers and units including the K-9 Unit, Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit and Motorcycle Unit, according to the release. The cost is $40 and all checks or money orders are to be made payable to the Town of Bel Air. The camp runs 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. June 17 …

Baltimore Man Charged With Dark Horse Stabbings

Tyron Lee Fuqua is being held in the Harford County Detention Center without bond.

A Baltimore man was arrested Friday and charged in a December stabbing outside of a Bel Air bar. According to Bel Air police, Tyron Lee Fuqua, 33, stabbed one man in the neck and another in the back outside the Dark Horse Saloon on Dec. 1 2012. He is being held in the Harford County Detention Center on a no bond indictment on several first- and second-degree assault charges.   Fuqua was arrested by the Baltimore police on the city’s east side.

Second Harford County Classroom Helper Charged With Sex Abuse

UPDATE: (1:14 p.m.)—An inclusion helper at Bel Air High School was charged Friday with sex abuse of a minor after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl. Anthony Leon Farris Jr., 24, of the 1000 block of Pirates Court in Edgewood, was charged Friday with sex abuse of a minor, fourth-degree sex offense and perverted practice, according to online court records. Trial Date Set In Bel Air Murder Case

A Dundalk man was indicted last month on charges he murdered a man inside the victim's Bel Air apartment, and his jury trial is expected to start this summer. On Monday afternoon, lawyers associated with the case met before a judge in Harford County Circuit Court for a scheduling conference, ultimately selecting a trial date of June 3, online court records show. Victor Levi Colbert, 31, of the 100 block of William Wade Avenue in Dundalk, is charged with first-degree murder and use of a dangerous weapon with intent to injure in connection with the death of Rodney Holmes Smith. Threat, 2-Hour Evacuation Of Harford District Court

A bomb threat was made Wednesday to the Mary Risteau Multi-Service Center which houses Harford County District Court.

For the second time in less than two weeks, the state office building in Bel Air that houses Harford County District Court was evacuated in the wake of a bomb threat—this time for more than two hours Wednesday. No device or immediate danger was found in the Mary Risteau Multi-Service Center at 2 S. Bond Street on either occasion. Bel Air Police were dispatched to the building at 11:04 a.m. on Feb. 6, after a bomb threat was made, Bel Air Police Chief Leo Matrangola wrote in an email to Patch Wednesday. Police helped evacuate the building minutes later, Matrangola said. Law enforcement searched the building, but no device was found. Around 1:16 p.m. people were allowed to go back inside. Arrest Warrant Issued in Dark Horse Stabbing

Police allege Tyron Lee Fuqua was involved in a December fight and subsequent stabbing outside the Bel Air tavern.

Harford County Police are seeking a Baltimore man in connection with the December fight outside Dark Horse Saloon in Bel Air that sent two men to the hospital with stab wounds. Bel Air Police today released a wanted flyer for Tyron Lee Fuqua in connection with the December incident.  A warrant has been issued for Fuqua's arrest. A number of witnesses identified Fuqua as one of the men involved in the fight Dec. 1, according to police. A warrant charging Fuqua with two counts of first-degree assault and three counts of second-degree assault is active through Harford County District Court, according to online court records. Threat Yields Evacuation Of Harford County District Court

A bomb threat was called in around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The state office building in Bel Air that houses Harford County District Court was evacuated Tuesday morning in response to a bomb threat. No device or immediate danger was found in the Mary Risteau Multi-Service Center at 2 S. Bond Street, however. The threat was called in around 8:30 a.m. and courthouse staff decided to evacuate the building, Bel Air Police Chief Leo Matrangola said. Bel Air officers assisted in the evacuation. A canine unit from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office searched the building and found nothing out of the ordinary, Matrangola said. The search was completed around 9:40 a.m. and people were then allowed to return to the building, Matrangola said.

Man Airlifted After Jumping From Moving Vehicle

A medevac helicopter landed at Rockfield Park in Bel Air Thursday morning to transport a young man injured after jumping out of a car.

UPDATE: (2:26 p.m.)—An Abingdon man was flown to an area trauma center after jumping from a moving vehicle Thursday in Bel Air. Shortly before 8:30 a.m. police and medical personnel arrived in the area of Route 22 and Fulford Avenue in Bel Air town limits after an accident was reported, according to a post from Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS spokesman, Rich Gardiner, on the association's official Facebook page. Bel Air Police officers initially believed a 28-year-old Abingdon man was ejected from his vehicle after a collision, but police later determined that was not the case.
