Bel Air Municipal Election Voters' Guide

Know where to vote and who the players are for Tuesday's election.

Election Day is Tuesday Nov. 8. All registered voters in the Town of Bel Air can cast a vote at town hall while polls are open. Polls open at 7 a.m. and will close 8 p.m. Five candidates are competing for three commissioner spots in Bel Air. Incumbents Robert Reier, Edward Hopkins and Terence Hanley hope to keep their spots while Susan Burdette and Greg Adolph want to become new faces on the board. All five candidates are Republicans, but the election is nonpartisan. Be sure to check out video from the candidate forum put on by Patch. Patch Hosting Bel Air Election Forum Wednesday

Residents are free to submit questions for the candidates.

Bel Air Patch will host a 2011 Bel Air Election forum Wednesday night at Town Hall. The three incumbents—Terence Hanley, Edward Hopkins and Robert Reier—and two challengers—Greg Adolph and Susan Burdette—were notified and invited last week. The forum will begin at about 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. There is no short term solution. What I will continue to work on is a longer term solution focused on Rt.1 /Rt. 24. Mayor Supports 2 Incumbents, Mum on Final Vote

David Carey declined to say who he will use all three of his votes on.

David Carey wants at least four of the same faces on the Board of Commissioners for the next two years. Bel Air’s Democratic mayor told Patch this week he supports two of the three incumbents for November’s town election. “I don’t know if endorse is the right word, but I support the reelection of Rob Reier and Eddie Hopkins,” Carey said of the two Republicans. “Having worked with both of them for at least four years, they’re fiscally conservative … they’re strong, independent-thinking commissioners.” Terence Hanley is the third incumbent up for reelection with Greg Adolph and Susan Burdette at the two challengers. Preston Endorses 2 Incumbents, 1 Challenger

Three signs outside the town commissioner's business indicate for whom he said he will vote.

Robert Preston may not be up for reelection next month, but he knows which candidates will receive his three votes. And if you drive by his Main Street business—Preston Stationery—it’s not hard to figure out. “[I have] signs for the three slots I feel are appropriate,” Preston told Patch after Monday’s town meeting. “I do support Robert Reier and Edward Hopkins as well as Greg Adolph.” Reier and Hopkins are incumbents while Adolph has stepped forward as a challenger for the second time in as many Board of Commissioner elections.
