The elections take place every two years to fill the Board of Commissioners' five seats.
At least two Bel Air commissioners said earlier this year they will run for reelection. As of Thursday, however, no one has filed for candidacy at Town Hall. The four-year terms of Terence Hanley, Edward Hopkins and Robert Reier expire this fall. Hanley and Hopkins told Patch in May they plan to run again, while Reier said he was undecided. Maxwell Rash, a 21-year-old real estate agent, said he will not run after earlier declaring he would challenge for a seat on the five-member board. "I feel that the residents of Bel Air and citizens as a whole are not ready for major cuts. They're serious about spending but no one seems to want to cut their budget," Rash wrote in a text message. Tuesday's primary election ballot is filled with names from the town.
A number of Bel Air residents are vying for votes in Tuesday's primary election. Among the positions up for grabs are county executive, County Council president, County Council in Districts A through F, state's attorney, register of wills, sheriff, Democratic Central Committee Female and Male, Republican Central Committee and the Board of Education in the A, B and D council districts. Incumbent County Executive David Craig faces Robert Wagner in the Republican primary for Craig's position. The winner will face Mark Fisher, of the Constitution Party, in the general election.
