Food Trucks Get 'OK' In Bel Air

Town commissioners voted unanimously in favor of legislation that will allow food trucks to operate in specified areas in Bel Air.

The Bel Air Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to allow food trucks in the town of Bel Air. Food trucks will be allowed only in the areas outlined in the map here. The areas in blue are permitted for use and the areas highlighted in red are permitted right-of-ways. The roving businesses will also be subject to license fees of $240 for 90 days and $400 for one-year as well as designated times for operation. Six people expressed their opinions on the legislation during public hearings that took place before the final vote. Most of the comments were in favor of food trucks. Preview: Public Hearing On Bel Air Food Trucks

The Bel Air Board of Commissioners will meet at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 7 for its regularly scheduled public meeting.

Bel Air officials have a trio of public hearings scheduled for the first business meeting of 2013. The biggest issue on the agenda is the question of whether or not to allow food trucks in the town of Bel Air. The permitted areas for food trucks to operate has changed since the plan was first proposed. The updated plan includes higher fees and fewer permitted areas for operation, according to a story on ExploreHarford.com. You can find the updated map here. I am glad to hear that Food Trucks were approved. When I was a grad student at UPENN food trucks were the best deal in town. And the successful ones usually then grew into full fledged restaurants, creating both good jobs and tax revenue for the city. Bel Air Officials Consider Allowing Food Trucks

The Bel Air Board of Commissioners will meet at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3 for its regularly scheduled public meeting.

Bel Air officials are toying with the idea of allowing food trucks and mobile vendors to do business in town. The issue is just one on the agenda for tonight's public meeting at Bel Air Town Hall, 39 N. Hickory Avenue in Bel Air.
