The funeral service of the Harford County School Board president took place Tuesday morning.
Family, friends and colleagues gathered Tuesday morning in Bel Air to celebrate the life of Dr. Leonard Wheeler—the Harford County school board president who died suddenly last week. Rev. Jay Blake of Ames United Methodist Church said he asked the family to sum up Wheeler's passion and he recieved one resounding answer: he lived to teach. "This was more than just a career or a vocation, for Dr. Wheeler, this was truly his heart," Blake said during Tuesday services for Wheeler. Wheeler dedicated much of his life to education, retiring after 32 years from the public school system. He was described by those who knew him as a wise and quiet soul, a "teacher's teacher" and someone who was not afraid to stand up for what he believed. Dr. Robert …

Bill Ward encouraged forgiveness at his son Patrick Ward’s funeral Wednesday, just five days after he was murdered in his Bel Air apartment. “Do not hold any hardness in your heart, or seek vengeance. For to do so, we destroy Pat’s legacy,” Bill Ward said before about 100 friends and family members inside St. Margaret Church. “Perhaps even those who sought to harm him will hear Pat’s message, will learn from him, and over time, find redemption. This is Patrick’s purpose.” Patrick’s mother, Kathleen Ward, thanked loved ones for treating her blind son the same as anyone else. His blindness was caused by a medical condition and worsened over time. “You gave him an opportunity to have a full life. You didn’t treat him like a blind man,” …

Armand Dupre was remembered Monday after a 33-year career with the town police department.
Armand Dupre lived his life at the Bel Air Police Department. It’s where he spent 12-hour workdays, once brought a deer back to the parking lot after a morning hunt and, most importantly, met his wife. During his more than three decades in the department, Dupre worked his way up from being an auxiliary officer to the department’s second in command. Deputy Chief Dupre retired July 7 at age 54. Less than three weeks later, on July 26, his year-long battle with cancer came to an end when he died at his White Hall home. Chief of Police Leo Matrangola said Dupre provided a necessary contrast to his personality. “If officers or citizens came in here and talked to him, he would sit down for lengthy discussions with them and by the time they …
