John Carroll Teacher Speaks At Religious Freedom Rally

Rachel Harkins was one of several people to speak at Friday's Rally for Religious Freedom in Bel Air.

The Harford County Circuit Court steps facing Main Street were the site of the second Rally for Religious Freedom in Bel Air Friday. As part of a nationwide rally, dozens of people gathered around the courthouse fountain with signs protesting the part of a law that requires employers, including religious institutions, to provide access to contraceptives to employees through their health care plans. Friday was the second time such a rally was held in Bel Air this year. Among the speakers at Friday's rally was Rachel Harkins, a teacher at the John Carroll School in Bel Air. I whole-heartedly agree, Mike, with you. I agree with your understanding of the Catholic background as well. I believe in freedom of choice, but would not rally someone to get an abortion, but offer options. Rally For Religious Freedom Returns to Bel Air

Bel Air is expected to participate in the nationwide rally today, Friday.

A nationwide rally against a law that requires employers, including religious institutions, to provide access to contraceptives to employees through their health care plans, is coming to Bel Air Friday (today) for the second time this year. In March, more than 100 people gathered outside the Harford County Circuit Court building located at 20 W. Courtland St. In similar fashion, this week's rally is scheduled to begin outside the court building at noon, according to a release from "Stand Up for Religous Freedom." More than 150 towns and cities nationwide are participating in the rally, the release states.
