Hearing Scheduled For Joppa Man Charged In Cannibalism, Murder

Alexander Kinyua of Joppa, who was initially deemed unfit to stand trial, has a plea hearing set for June.

The Joppa man accused of killing his housemate and eating part of the dead man's heart and brains has a June plea hearing scheduled in Harford County Circuit Court. Alexander Kinyua, 22, of the 500 block Terrapin Terrace, was indicted in June 2012 on charges of first-degree murder and use of a dangerous weapon in the slaying of Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie. According to charging documents, Kinyua—a former Morgan State University student—allegedly told detectives that he killed Agyei-Kodie, cut him up with a knife then ate part of the dead man's heart and brain before hiding body parts in his basement. In August, Kinyua was deemed temporarily unfit to stand trial in the case. Court records show Harford County State's Attorney Joe Cassilly …

Teen Charged With Sex Offense Moved To Juvenile Court

The Bel Air teen was initially charged as an adult in connection with the sexual assault of a girl he knows, but this month his case was moved back to juvenile court.

A Bel Air teen indicted in December on sexual assault charges will no longer be tried as an adult after a Harford County judge ordered the case be moved to juvenile court. The move closes legal proceedings to the public and the media, preventing the coommunity from following further developments in the case. A hearing to determine whether or not the teen would be tried as an adult or have the case moved to juvenile court was held earlier this month. Prosecutors withdrew objections to moving the case to juvenile court and Judge Elizabeth Bowen ordered the case moved to juvenile court on March 20, according to online court records. The accused teen, now 17, of the 800 block of Bridle Path, was indicted Dec. 11 in Harford Count Circuit Court …

Dundalk Man Indicted On Bel Air Murder Charge

While Victor Colbert was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Thursday, that hearing was cancelled in light of his indictment in connection with the December 2012 murder of a Bel Air man.

A Dundalk man was indicted Tuesday in connection with the December murder of another man inside his Bel Air apartment. Victor Levi Colbert, 32, of the 100 block of William Wade Avenue, was indicted Tuesday on charges of first-degree murder and wearing or carrying a dangerous weapon with intent to injure. Due to a glitch in the system, Colbert was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Thurdsay in the initial district court case. Harford County District Court cases are typically considered closed after indictments. Because of this mistake, the hearing did not take place. The murder charges stem from an early December 2012 incident in town. Police found 52-year-old Rodney Holmes Smith dead in his apartment in the 200 block of Baltimore Pikeon …

Preliminary Hearing Today For Accused Murderer

The Dundalk man accused of killing a Bel Air resident last month is scheduled to be in court Jan. 10.

State prosecutors must today provide enough evidence to hold up murder charges against a Dundalk man accused of murdering a Bel Air man last month. Victor Levi Colbert, 32, is charged with second-degree murder and first- and second-degree assault in connection with the death of 52-year-old Rodney Holmes Smith. A preliminary hearing in the case is schedlued to take place at 11 a.m. in Harford County District Court. The hearing is essentially a show cause hearing where the state must show there is evidence the accused committed the crimes he is charged with. If prosecutors are successful, the case will then be carried over to circuit court. If not, some or all of the charges could be dropped. It is not a hearing to determine guilt. Police …

Take Responsibility!

To add, he committed a cold blooded man's crime, a murder of his father. Too bad nosey bleeding heart liberals like Eileen think they know everything when they know nothing and make up everything as they go along. Let the "kid" sit in jail for 40 or 50 years, then let him live with the Sipples. Maybe he will kill all of them, or just one.   more ›

Harford County Prepares for Same-Sex Marriage Licenses

Same-sex couples can apply for marriage licenses in Bel Air starting Dec. 12.

The Harford County Circuit Court will begin accepting applications for same-sex marriage licenses Wednesday. Gov. Martin O'Malley signed a proclamation enabling Maryland courthouses to issue the licenses last week so that same-sex couples could be legally wed as of Jan. 1, 2013, when the law recognizing same-sex marriage takes effect. Clerk James Reilly of Harford County's Circuit Court said his office had "some internal administrative things to take care of" before the change. "We could have done it as of Dec. 6 and some of the clerks' offices did," Reilly said, "but in Harford County, the software had to be changed." When language on Harford County's marriage licenses was revised from "man and woman" to "party 1 and party 2," the license…

Penelope. You would be ok with Kyle living next to you. You are a responsible parent from that statement. There is an odd backline to this whole story and something is fishy. Read all the details and it does not add up. I would never condone rape or sexual assault, but there is a lot more to this story that we have have not heard. Also, I was looking at the case search website again and it says …   more ›

Court Appointed Child Advocates Sworn In Wednesday

Harford County gained 13 new trained volunteers to advocate for children in the court system.

More than a dozen volunteers dedicated to helping children in the court system were sworn in Wednesday. With the ceremony, the group of 13 officially became Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASAs, having completed 30 hours of classroom training and at least two hours of court observation, according to a release from CASA. They were sworn in by Judge William O. Carr Wednesday in Harford County Circuit Court. Volunteers are assigned to the case of a child within the juvenile court system who is ruled in need, based on past abuse or neglect, according to the CASA of Harford website. They advocate for the best interests of these children in the judicial, educational, medical, and social service systems, the release states. Last year, CASA…
