A robber didn't get far in his efforts to rob the Sovereign Bank on Emmorton Road.
A quick-thinking bank worker thwarted a robbery attempt at a Harford County bank Saturday morning, officials say. Harford County sheriff's deputies responded to the 1800 block of Emmorton Road for an attempted robbery at the Sovereign Bank. Responding deputies reported that at about 9 a.m. a man who was hiding in the bushes near the bank attempted to rob it when the manager began to open the doors for the business day, according to a statement from the sheriff's office. The suspect rushed toward the manager, displaying a black handgun, police said. The manager was able to secure the inner door of the bank and the suspect ran away on foot in an unknown direction without getting any money, according to police. The suspect was described as a …

UPDATE: (3:25 p.m.)—A Harford County Sheriff's Office deputy is facing a series of criminal charges after allegedly accepting bribes from Baltimore-based towing company in exchange for privileged information. Deputy First Class Todd E. Johnson, 30, of the 400 block of Bonnett Street in Aberdeen, is charged with demanding or receiving a bribe as a public employee, malfeasance in office, theft scheme between $1,000 and $10,000 and willfully distributing a valid National Criminal Information Center (NCIC) code, according to a release from the sheriff's office. Johnson, a 7-year veteran of the sheriff's office, is accused of carrying on illegal activity with Final Notice Recovery and Location of 4501 Curtis Avenue in Baltimore. The business is…

The Bel Air teen was initially charged as an adult in connection with the sexual assault of a girl he knows, but this month his case was moved back to juvenile court.
A Bel Air teen indicted in December on sexual assault charges will no longer be tried as an adult after a Harford County judge ordered the case be moved to juvenile court. The move closes legal proceedings to the public and the media, preventing the coommunity from following further developments in the case. A hearing to determine whether or not the teen would be tried as an adult or have the case moved to juvenile court was held earlier this month. Prosecutors withdrew objections to moving the case to juvenile court and Judge Elizabeth Bowen ordered the case moved to juvenile court on March 20, according to online court records. Police are looking for two men in connection with the Friday night armed robbery.
Two masked men robbed the Edgewood Burger King at gunpoint Friday night, and police are looking for information on their whereabouts. Between 10 and 10:15 p.m. Friday, two men wearing ski masks walked into the Burger King located at 1808 Edgewood Road in Edgewood, Harford County Sheriff's Office spokesman Edward Hopkins said. One of the men pulled a gun on employees and demanded cash from the register, Hopkins said. The men then fled, Hopkins said. No injuries were reported, Hopkins said. The first robber is described as a 6' 5" tall, man. He was wearing a black ski mask, black hooded jacket and black pants. The trial of a Churchville man charged with crashing his car while under the influence, killing another man, was postponed Tuesday. Jordan Craig Stewart, 27, of the 500 block of Bryarly Court in Churchville, was indicted in October 2012 on charges of negligent manslaughter by vehicle, negligent homicide by auto while using drugs and six related charges. His trial was set to begin Tuesday, but instead was pushed back to June 10. The charges stem from a crash that killed a 21-year-old man from Street. A Bel Air teen indicted on sex offense charges has a March hearing date to determine whether he will be tried as an adult or a juvenile. Alessandro Lori, 16, of the 800 block of Bridle Path, was indicted Dec. 11 on two counts of first-degree sex offense, two counts of third-degree sex offense and single counts of second-degree sex offense, attempted second-degree sex offense, fourth-degree sex offense and second-degree assault.
