The North defeated the South, 27-24, in the first ever UCBAC senior showcase game.
North Harford football coach Ken Brinkman knew the first would be the toughest. That's why, when talking with Patch in August about the inaugural Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference senior showcase football game, Brinkman looked to the future. “We just said, let's do something with our kids, with coaches in town, and you’ll get a chance for our kids to play,” Brinkman told Patch. “It’ll be a really good thing in the long-run.” After Sunday's game, the future looks bright. Before a solid crowd at Bobcat Stadium in Bel Air, the North Team defeated the South Team, 27-24, on a last-minute drive, orchestrated by Brinkman's Hawks quarterback Ryan Stinar. History is on the line this weekend for two local high school football teams. Aberdeen and Perryville are trying to become the first Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference schools to win a Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association state championship since 2003. But first, they must advance past the state semifinal round. Aberdeen is seeking its second-ever state championship appearance. The Eagles won the Class 2A state title in 2003. Perryville, the lone representative from Cecil County to reach the playoffs this year and the only undefeated team in the UCBAC after winning the Susquehanna Division, is in the state semifinals for the first time in school history. The Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference will be represented in three region playoffs.
The Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference will have six teams participating when the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association region playoffs begin Friday. Six of the 15 UCBAC teams reached the playoffs this year after four qualified last year. It's the most teams to reach the region playoffs from the Harford-Cecil league since a record seven teams made the postseason in 2006. Aberdeen and Perryville reached the postseason for the first time since 2004. Fallston and Patterson Mill are playoff-bound for the second straight year.
