Trees get turned into something else after the holidays.
Harford County provides two places for residents to take their old Christmas trees. Rather than throwing them out with the trash, citizens can drop off their trees in Street or Bel Air for recycling. From there, the trees will be ground into a mulch product that the county gives away or sells in the spring, according to Bob Ernst, recycling program manager for Harford County. Since the tree recycling program's inception in 1989, residents have dropped off more than 90,000 trees, which saves landfill space, the county reports. There are two locations for dropping off Christmas trees:

If you want to see a Christmas light spectacular, you have at least three options in and around Bel Air.
The Christmas holiday is almost upon us and if you haven't yet checked out the brilliant light displays around Harford County, Patch is here to help you find at least three homes worth seeing. It seems every year those who set Christmas lights set to music take on bigger and brighter challenges. This year, two households in Bel Air and one in Abingdon are drawing crowds to their respective neighborhoods. Be sure to vote for Kirkendall's entry in Patch's Deck the House Contest to help win $100,000 for Harford County schools. You tell us: Have you visited these local light displays? What did you think? Know of any others our neighbors should be aware of? Share in the comments.

Could this be the best “decked” house in the country? Possibly. Congrats to Evan Kirkendall for being chosen as one of the 25 finalists in our Deck the House contest. We had tons of national entries in this year’s Deck the House contest and in our quest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in the country, we’ve seen everything from a life-size Santa to holiday lights so bright they could blind the neighbors. We loved seeing everyone’s holiday spirit, but Deck the House isn’t over yet. We’re still looking for the one home so spectacularly decorated that it could be the national grand prize winner of our contest—and it could be a home from right here in Bel Air. Until Dec. 28, vote in our contest to help this entry win $100,000 …
