Teen Rape Case Moved to Juvenile Court, Closed to Public

Kyle Reddish, who was charged with rape in September 2011, appeared in court Monday.

A case involving an Abingdon teen—charged with raping a fellow Patterson Mill High School student last fall—was moved to juvenile court during a hearing Monday morning. The move effectively closes the case's outcome to the public, preventing media and community members from following further developments in the case. Kyle Burnett Reddish, 17, of the 100 block of Kensington Parkway, was charged as an adult with two counts of second-degree rape and six related charges in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a girl who was 14 years old at the time. Trial Postponed For Teen Charged With Rape

The trial of the Abingdon teen charged with raping a Patterson Mill High School classmate has been postponed with a hearing scheduled next week to determine whether or not to move the case to juvenile court. Kyle Burnett Reddish, 17, of the 100 block of Kensington Parkway, has been  charged as an adult. He has been charged with two counts of second-degree rape and six related charges stemming from the September 2011 alleged sexual assault of a girl who was 14 years old at the time. Reddish's lawyer, Christopher Flohr requested the case be moved to juvenile court.   The trial of a teen charged with raping a Patterson Mill High School classmate was scheduled to begin Tuesday, but was postponed until August. Jury selection in the trial of Kyle Reddish, the Patterson Mill High School kicker charged as an adult with raping a classmate, was scheduled to begin today but the trial has been postponed until May. Reddish, 16, of the 200 block of Kensington Parkway in Abingdon, was charged in connection with the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl the night after he was instrumental in the Huskies' Sept. 16 9-7 win against Bel Air, according to court records. The rape of a 14-year-old girl and charging of her classmate quickly caught the attention of local readers after Patch first broke the story in September. He is currently charged as an adult so for this matter the law sees him as an adult, at least for now. I agree with you, he has not been found guilty. The charges are strictly accusations and a verdict will be determined in court. Nothing in the article states he is guilty, just that he has been accused of these crimes. Scheduling Conference Set For Teen Facing Rape Charges

Kyle Reddish, the 16-year-old Patterson Mill High School junior charged with raping a 14-year-old fellow student, was initially scheduled to appear for an arraignment Monday, but that appearance was canceled, according to his attorney. Reddish’s lawyer, Bill Blackford, said that an arraignment is typically canceled once an attorney notifies the court he will appear in the case. “The case is following the natural course for one of this kind,” Blackford said.
