The Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference released updated standings Tuesday morning. The C. Milton Wright girls are leading the Chesapeake division in both softball and lacrosse, boasting an undefeated season in division play for the latter. The Huskies girls basketball team advanced to the MPSSAA's final four on Friday.
Patterson Mill continued its dominant run through the Class 2A East region Friday, blowing out Queen Anne's to win the region championship. The Huskies' 64-28 win finished a four-game run where they outscored the opposition by an average of more than 37 points per game. Patterson Mill advances to the MPSSAA Class 2A state semifinals, where it will face Calvert (19-1) at 5 p.m. on March 8 at UMBC's RAC Arena for a chance to advance to the March 9 championship game. With a semifinal win, Patterson Mill would face the winner of the other semifinal, featuring Randallstown (13-5) and Middletown (16-7). The MPSSAA state swim meet was held in College Park.
The C. Milton Wright girls set three county records and paddled to a second-place finish in the state swim meet Saturday in College Park. C. Milton Wright took second in the MPSSAA girls meet, and fourth in the boys meet, as the top representatives from Harford County. The Mustangs girls topped last year's record in the 200 medley relay, swimming a 1:53.24, besting the 1:54.82 set last year. They won the state title by three seconds. Part of both of those relay teams was Lauren O'Mara, who also broke her own county reacord in the 100 breast stroke with a time of 1:06.70. The Mustangs won the regular season crown, led by an undefeated girls team.
The C. Milton Wright swim team won the regular season championship in Harford County. The Mustangs girls (15-0) led the way for the team, which also went 15-0. The boys were 14-1. See the full standings included with this post. The county swim championship is scheduled for Feb. 5 and 6 at Magnolia Middle School. Have photos of your team in action? The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association is launching a new initiative to teach parents, coaches and students the ins and outs of college athletics.
The state's governing body of high school athletics is striving to make the transition to college easier on student-athletes. The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association has put together a program to help families and schools better understand the process of college recruiting and eligibility. The service is provided through The Recruiting Education Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit organization. "We are happy to provide this informational program to our student-athletes and their families at no cost," MPSSAA Executive Director Ned Sparks said in a news release. Both teams are in the football playoff semifinals and at stake are berths in the state championships.
History is on the line this weekend for two local high school football teams. Aberdeen and Perryville are trying to become the first Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference schools to win a Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association state championship since 2003. But first, they must advance past the state semifinal round. Aberdeen is seeking its second-ever state championship appearance. The Eagles won the Class 2A state title in 2003. Perryville, the lone representative from Cecil County to reach the playoffs this year and the only undefeated team in the UCBAC after winning the Susquehanna Division, is in the state semifinals for the first time in school history. Congrats to CMW for the win, and to ALL the SWIMMERS who worked just as hard and did an amazing job!!! This was the WORST hosted HS event EVER! The people that ran it were on major power trips and nothing but RUDE! Sad that you cant even go to a High School event and enjoy the teams there and the people..
