What would you like to see in this commercial vacancy in Bel Air?
Marlin & Rays permanently closed its doors in January, prompting speculation from the community about what would fill the vacancy. The restaurant replaced Ruby Tuesday, but closed after less than four months in business. The now-empty restaurant is located at 593 Baltimore Pike on a 31,636 square foot lot, according to online property records. It was first built in 1993, but recently underwent renovations. The Bel Air location was one of 13 to close.
After little more than three months in business in Bel Air, Marlin & Rays permanently closed its doors Wednesday. The Bel Air location was not alone in closing. Parent company Ruby Tuesday's president and CEO James “JJ” Buettgen said tough times prompted the decision to close all 13 Marlin and Rays seafood restaurants, a Potomac Local piece reports. The announcement to close came the same day the company's second-quarter earnings were announced, according to a story on Nation's Restaurant News. According to Potomac Local, the company lost about $15 million in the conversion of Ruby Tuesday restaurants to Marlin & Rays. Bel Air was among the conversion sites. The new restaurant officially opened Wednesday afternoon.
A corner of beach and a taste of the sea opened in Bel Air Wednesday afternoon. Marlin & Rays officially opened for business at 2 p.m. Wednesday. An area of beach chairs, complete with sand and a sun umbrella along with a beanbag game were featured outside the restaurant for the opening. Less than half an hour after doors opened, a few people were trying out the new restaurant. Guest services manager Sam Parker explained the weekend of an opening is usually more heavily attended than opening day. The restaurant replaced Ruby Tuesday at 593 Baltimore Pike in Bel Air. We need a good 24 hour diner. Double t is too expensive and put limits on refills. One free refill on coffee! Are you kidding me?! If not a diner maybe a Denny's, still miss the fallston one. more ›
