Joppa Truck Fire Causes $16K Damage

A pick-up truck caught fire while stuck in the mud in Joppa Sunday.

A pickup truck sustained more than $16,000 in damage after catching fire while it was stuck in the mud in Joppa. Members of the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company were called to the 1100 block of Oak Avenue in Joppa around 5:47 p.m. Sunday, according to a release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. When firefighters arrived, they found a 2006 GMC Sierra pickup truck and nearby ground cover on fire, the release states. The truck's owner explained the truck got stuck in the mud and the bottom of the car caught fire as he tried to get it free, fire officials said. Residents, Dogs Escape Late Night Bel Air Fire

The fire took place just after 11 p.m. Sunday in Bel Air.

Three residents and their dogs escaped, but a firefighter suffered minor injuries battling a blaze late Sunday in Bel Air. Approximately 40 firefighters arrived around 11:08 p.m. and took 30 minutes to control a fire at a one-story, single-family home in the 300 block of Locust Lane, according to a statement from the Maryland State Fire Marshal. The firefighter was treated at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and later released. Harford County Fire & EMS Association spokesman Rich Gardiner said the firefighter was treated for "minor burns to the neck and arm." The accidental fire began with a "mechanical malfunction" in the engine of a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta, which was parked in the attached garage at the home, according to the fire marshal. …

Joppa Garage Fire Causes $15K Damage

Investigators believe the fire started accidentally.

A fire in a detached garage in Joppa caused about $15,000 in damage Saturday. Shortly before 12:11 p.m. neighbors noticed the fire in the 500 block of Magnolia Road and called 911, according to a release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. Twenty-five firefighters from Joppa-Magnolia, Abingdon and Bel Air Volunteer Fire Companies and Aberdeen Proving Ground professional fire department responded to the scene and controlled the blaze within half an hour, the release states. Deputy state fire marshals believe the fire began accidentally inside the 35-foot by 24-foot detached garage when sparks from a propane torch ignited nearby flammable material. Officials: Heater For Cats Ignited Joppatowne Blaze

The fire took place Wednesday afternoon on Shore Drive in Harford County.

A heating unit used to keep stray pets warm ignited a fire Wednesday that damaged both a boat and the Joppatowne house where it was parked, the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said Thursday. The fire caused approximately $225,000 in combined damage to the boat and the residence, which is located on the 600 block of Shore Drive in Joppatowne. According to the fire marshal, the fire began with a malfunctioning heating pad in the boat—a 22-foot Cuddy Angler. The boat was parked in the driveway of the residence. Malfunction Burns Construction Equipment in Bel Air

The fire happened early Saturday morning on Cedarwood Drive in Harford County.

A malfunctioning charging system caused an equipment fire early Saturday at a construction site in Bel Air. The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said crews from Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company responded around 12:31 a.m. on Jan. 12 to the 1500 block of Cedarwood Drive in Bel Air. A neighbor first reported the blaze, which occurred in the rear of a construction site, the fire marshal said. The fire caused $4,000 in damage to a Caterpillar 973 Crawler Loader owned by a Harford County construction company, according to the fire marshal's release. Officials said there were no injuries. Joppa Car Fire Investigated As Possible Arson

The fire caused about $6,000 damage.

A stolen car was found ablaze Monday night in Joppa and investigators believe the fire could be an act of arson. Around 8:24 p.m. a passerby noticed a car aflame in the 2700 block of Winters Run Road in Joppa, according to a release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. Five firefighters from the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company controlled the fire within 15 minutes, but not before the flames and smoke caused about $6,000 damage to the vehicle, the release states. The 2007 Toyota four-door vehicle was reported stolen in in the middle of December 2012. Belcamp Gazebo Torched Early Sunday Morning

The Maryland State Fire Marshal said arson was to blame.

A series of combustable materials is to blame for a fire that burned a gazebo early Sunday morning in Belcamp. The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said arson was to blame for the fire, which originated on the flooring of the gazebo and caused approximately $1,000 in damage to the wood-framed structure. The incident occured in the 1400 block of Dalmation Place in Belcamp, the fire marshal said. The structure is owned by Arborview Apartment Homes. The fire marshal's report indicated the fire started "due to common combustibles being ignited on the wooden floor of the gazebo." 24 People Temporarily Displaced After Bel Air Apartment Fire

No injuries were reported in connection with the fire, officials say.

Two dozen people had to leave their homes Monday night when a fire broke out in a Bel Air apartment building. Around 11:48 p.m. a neighbor in the 1300 block of Scottsdale Drive in Bel Air noticed a fire on the second-floor balcony of a four-story apartment building in that block, according to a release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office and a post by spokesman Rich Gardiner on the official Harford County Fire and EMS media Facebook page. The fire went from from the second-floor balcony up to the third-floor balcony, but did not get inside the building, Gardiner wrote. Arson Suspected in Monday's Edgewood Fire

The fire caused about $160,000 damage to the split-level home.

A fire inside an Edgewood home on Monday may have been the result of arson, state fire officials say. Shortly before 8 a.m., a neighbor noticed a fire inside a two-story, split-level home in the 800 block of Fisherman Lane, according to a release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. Harford County Fire & EMS Association spokesman Rich Gardiner noted in a post on the organization's Facebook page that crews from Joppa, Abingdon, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Bel Air, White Marsh, Fallston and Kingsville responded to the fire. The fire caused about $160,000 in damage to the building, according to the release. Edgewood Denny's Arson: Reward Offered, Video Released

Investigators have released video of the man suspected of twice setting fire to the Denny's in Edgewood. There is a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case. On Aug. 3 flames engulfed the business located at 1803 Edgewood Road. The blaze caused about $500,000 damage to the business and sent both a firefighter and employee to the hospital, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.
