An environmentally-friendly roof at Ring Factory Elementary School in Bel Air saves money.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held this past Tuesday for the new green roof on Ring Factory Elementary School. The first of its kind in the county, Ring Factory's Energy Star-rated "cool roof" is made of PVC material. The PVC reflects heat rather than absorb it, which reduces energy consumption by approximately 58 percent, according to Harford County Superintendent Dr. Robert Tomback. The technology is expected to save about $500,000 annually. "This roof shows what we can do," Tomback said in regards to the communal effect of this eco-friendly step.
