The decision was made official Monday.
John Watson has been named the head football coach at Harford Tech High School, according to Harford County Public Schools Supervisor of Athletics Ken Zorbach. Principal Charles Hagan emailed the school staff Monday to congratulate Watson, who teaches at Harford Tech and has already served one stint as Cobras head coach, Zorbach said. The school's athletic director, David Deutsch, told Patch in February that no one within the school applied for the head coaching position. Deutsch was teaching Tuesday morning and not immediately available for comment. Athletic Director David Deutsch did not apply for the position, but at least one former county head coach is in the mix.

He expects the selection committee to narrow the field considerably before sitting down with candidates. “I think ideally we’re …

Athletic Director David Deutsch said he and Principal Charles Hagan, who was not available for comment, made a joint decision to relieve the coach of his duties before informing him in a late-January meeting. “He’s a great man. He was a mentor for me and I felt horrible throughout the entire process. He’s somebody who I care very deeply for,” Deutsch said. The athletic director first said that Woods had resigned, which came as a surprise to the former head coach. “It wasn’t my choice to step down, so that’s false,” said Woods, who cited “parent complaints” as a reason that he believes contributed to his dismissal. “I’m …

Oh, thank God! I was so worried that Harford Tech wouldn't find a quality football coach for their program. This is a huge weight off my back and I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way. Could you maybe go back when David Deutsch isn't teaching a class so we could get some comments from him? That would be really swell.   more ›
