Wheel Road Reopens After Reconstruction Project

Single-lane closures may be necessary over the next week.

Part of Wheel Road that had been getting upgrades for the past several months was reopened to traffic Wednesday afternoon, according to the Harford County Department of Public Works.

Wheel Road had been closed since May 28 so that workers could reconstruct the roadway from Cedar Lane to Glenangus Drive and repave a section up to the Bynum Run Bridge.

Boasting a thoroughfare with new guardrail, base, surface, paving, gutters and striping, the months-long project is nearly complete, and the road opened Wednesday.

The work cost $1.5 million, according to The Aegis.

There may still be some finishing touches coming through the end of November.

"Travelers should be aware that work will continue with the contractor to complete the grading adjacent to the shoulders, planting of trees and and installing of fences over the next week," the Harford County Bureau of Highway Engineering reported Nov. 6.

The county said a single-lane closure may be necessary to perform the final pieces of the Wheel Road project.

This was the second part of a two-phase project to improve Wheel Road.

In 2012, Wheel Road was closed for five months for reconstruction between Patterson Mill Road and Laurel Bush Road.
