Investigators Working To Identify Body Recovered From Winters Run

The body of an unidentified man was pulled from the waters near Atkisson Dam Sunday.

Investigators are looking into the death of a man whose body was pulled out of Winters Run near Atkisson Dam Sunday afternoon.

The dead man had not been identified as of 2:30 p.m. Monday, Kelly Luster with the Aberdeen Proving Ground Public Affairs Office told Patch.

The age of the man and whether or not foul play was involved remained unclear Monday afternoon.

Around 4:37 p.m. Sunday, personnel from the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company responded to the area of the Atkisson Dam where they found a body face down in the reservoir, according to a release from the fire company.

Atkisson Dam was built during World War II to provide a reservoir of water for Army post operations and activities, according to a release from APG.

"It ended up never being used for that," Luster said.

The dam nevertheless falls under APG jurisdiction.
