I really like Harvest Fare, the prices are low and the employees are very friendly. I also like the produce department, it is well stocked and fresh.

We make the trek every 2 to 4 weeks to H-Mart in Catonsville. The produce moves out of this Asian market so fast there’s no chance of it not being fresh. The prices have always been better by far than any store around here and the selection is outstanding. You’ll find things there you have no idea what to do with. Fish, turtles, rabbit, duck, frog, you name it. It’s like being on Chopped. Ever tried fresh longan, rambutan, durian, banana blossom, guava and on and on? We’ve usually been able to fill 1 and a half to 2 carts for the same price as 1 locally. Wegman’s was too yuppie for me. I don't go to the grocery store for ambiance - give me fresh and cheap any day.

Where to start... Giant was bought by Royal Ahold, a Dutch company, in 1998. ShopRite is a cooperative. The Kleins still own all of their stores. Mars is also a Maryland company. Walmart is a public company, so anyone can be a part owner by buying stock. Wegmans is owned by the Wegman family of New York.

I love Shoprite but since they will not double coupons, I'm starting to shop by the sales. I do love Wegmans and think their prices on regular groceries are great.

Shoping at Giant is Awesome now that everyone else goes to Wegmans.

Wish downtown HdG had a store that sold milk and dairy, beverages, fresh produce, a small grocery line. Would be able to shop at least every other trip without starting up the darn car. If they can bring an Amish market to downtown HdG there will be lots of support.

Yes, but you can't blame Mars for the neighborhood! Mars has pleanty of safe locations but I will agree with you that the Edgewood location at night is asking to get jumped. Redners is just gross to me, I find rotten produce items, correction REALLY REALLY nasty/rotten produce items. Deli and Meat dept. are all awful. Grocery selection is decent, but perishable departments really just plain suck, I have always loved Mars and will shop there when the new one opens instead of driving to Aberdeen.

Hollee - Wegman's has Duke's mayonaisse. We just tried it this past weekend and I doubt we will ever buy another brand. Duke's is the real thing! Duke's website has several promising potato salad recipes we are going to try soon.

Didnt know that they were building a MARS!! I live right in Belair usually go to Weis becuse I can walk to it but I hate everything about the place, produce SUCKS, people are not friendly they always have two registers open and most the time people use the self check out instead. I have been recently going to Harvest Fare prices r very LOW and they DOUBLE $1.00 COUPONS!!!!

Grew up in Ny with wegmans. Moved here in 2001, and disliked every grocery store here. I will give Giant the most improved award, but I will still do most of my shopping at wegmans. A few a items might be pricey, but people you know every store has a better deal on something. It depends on what type of things you buy. I promise Wegmans will deliver on quality and service. I grew up on them. Get to know the people there and you will love it. Gianelli sausage anyone?

I didnt say that I blame Mars for their crappy Edgewood location. However, I will not shop there because of where it is. On more than one occasion, I have been almost plowed over by some scum bag shoplifter running through the parking lot from an employee chasing them. Not to mention, the countless times, that there has been police there for some reason or another. I am actually really shocked by your experience with Redners. Are you referring to the one in Joppatowne or Hickory? I buy all of my produce from there (Joppatowne) and have never ever had a problem with it. I get a lot of my meats from there as well and it has always been good.

I used to shop at the Klein's in the Festival...until Shop Rite took over. The whole atmosphere in the store changed and it was not a pleasant experience anymore. I also had a horrible experience with a cashier...she did not even acknowledge my presence and continued a disgusting conversation with the young girl bagging my groceries. I spoke to a manager that day and then went home to e-mail the company. They did reply with a letter and gift card; however I gave the card to my church for their food bank. I will not shop at Shop Rite for food again. I do, however, LOVE the pharmacy and the people that work in that dept. I will continue getting my meds from them.

I live in edgewood so for my basic stuff I go to mars or redners. I love wegmans but I liked the one in hunt valley better. i've had some issues with their produce. their ginger (thai) especially has not been fresh. I had to throw both types out. I finally went and told a lady that works in that department there was visible mold on the thai ginger. Also, they did not have some items I thought they would have so I was annoyed since it takes effort to go there!

Best produce for quality and price, "Harvest Fare". Always great bargains with friendly smiling faces. I live in Fallston and can be there and home again without risking my life taking the hike to " South Bel Air". Bif

I have to go to Giant or for my Boars Head Brand deli items. I will not buy any other ever!!

Sorry Rebecca! I commented on another post and it was meant to be on yours! I couldn't have said it better! I think the people that are saying bad things about Wegmans are forgetting how many jobs it has brought to our area. Not to mention, hopefully raising the bar on customer service so that maybe other stores will do the same....they sure need it.

HARVEST FARE all the way! The prices are low, but the quality is great.. their produce and seafood department are fresh and their bakery is impressive! Plus, double coupons to a dollar... a hidden treasure in Fallston
Deeg October 14, 2011 at 03:46 AM
Harvest Fair is great, but I miss Acme and Russ, the Produce Manager. He had the produce department looking great! Always friendly and willing to go the extra mile for his customers! You can't "re-produce" that anywhere!
shops a lot October 14, 2011 at 09:20 PM
My family prefers Harvest Fare to our other options around town. We find the best deals there, plus the meats and produce is the best around. Mike in the Meat department is awesome with custom cuts, and the prices can't be beat. Quality service and friendly staff. Gotta love a "locally owned" neighborhood store.

I'd have to say this is a biased poll. To not include Giant, Redners, and Safeway makes no sense. These are the 3 stores where I shop, and now that Wegmans is here, I will go there occasionally. As long as ShopRite has Kleins in front of their name, you won't see me in there.
CB9678 October 17, 2011 at 12:48 AM
By South Bel Air do you mean Abingdon? How is that a risk to your life?
CB9678 October 17, 2011 at 12:49 AM
The Amish come down to Joppatowne!
RP October 17, 2011 at 01:13 AM
The one in Bel Air is just awful, I have been to the one in Joppa, but it is usually out of the way for me so I don't usually stop in, but I didn't have a complaint there. It must be the management of the Bel Air location.

Well i took the trip to Wegmans so I could have a HONEST opinion...My son and his friend were fascinated with the $299.99 per pound TRUFFLE mushrooms?Who knows but they were there and no bigger then a "deer dropping"To me it is a trip that you need to plan to be there awhile...VERY BIG and lots of selections. However di purchase some REALLY good importe swiss cheese pricy but well worth it..scallops for football...yummy:) and a few other odds and ends ..nice place but I will stick to closer to home.
