Bel Air Power Restored After Blown Transformer

Traffic is congested along Hickory Avenue in Bel Air.

UPDATE (6:32 p.m.)—Power is back on throughout town, according to the Bel Air Police Department.

Much of Hickory Avenue in downtown is without power Thursday evening after a transformer blew on Maryland Route 543, according to a police dispatcher.

"We are in the gridlock," a dispatcher for the told Patch. "Lights are out at Moore's Mill [Road] and Hickory [Avenue] and Broadway and Hickory."

Cones have been set up to divert traffic, but emergency services spokesman Rich Gardiner asked drivers to avoid the area.
