Maryland Route 543, reopened shortly after 4 p.m., was closed for about five hours. The incident is still under investigation.

One "elderly" female has died in a two-vehicle accident on Maryland Route 543 in front of the at about 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Two medevac vehicles transported two patients, according to Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association. He said "multiple rescues to extricate victims" were being performed.

Two patients were flown to Maryland Shock Trauma with "serious injuries" and a third was driven to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Gardiner said. The three patients being transported to hospitals were all women in their mid-30s.

One firefighter was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for "heat issues." Five ambulances responded to the scene.

Jczr2 since it appears you have the ability to see the future, got any ideas on Fridays lotto numbers????
Janice July 22, 2011 at 10:37 AM
My thoughts and prayers are with the DiCoccos. Such a senseless tragedy. No one should speed anywhere on 543, especially in front of the swim club!. I hope justice is served. Carolyn was a wonderful lady...RIP.
Loretta July 22, 2011 at 12:16 PM
Why are you making people think this has anything to do with the intersection at 22. If you are a resident of the area you KNOW Fountain Green Swim Club is no where near WAWA.
Loretta July 22, 2011 at 12:26 PM
It has alot to do with it Matt and "anonymous". One occasion does not show a pattern of inappropriate behavior, but both of these women have multiple records for multiple offenses, and note the expungements. I also understand that both are under investigation for being under the influence of drugs - at 10am? If you are high at 10am you are obviously using drugs pretty frequently.
Steven Muccioli July 22, 2011 at 01:44 PM
not to mention the drug store and that strip mall on that
Loretta July 22, 2011 at 01:56 PM
I think with drugs involved it is more than texting. That area of 543 at Fountain Green Swim Club you can see for a mile away. No reason that this happened except negligence.

So Sad, Someone hit me on 22 b/c they were texting and almost killed us. People are just not paying attention to driving. At least 2-3 accidents a day on Rt. 22. Senseless. Our prayers got to the DiCoccos family.
Sandra Durst July 22, 2011 at 11:24 PM
This is so very sad,I know the lady that was killed. And i do believe if these girls have a criminal record then it needs to be looked at.I have a severe accident and i was not killed but i have had mulitiable surgerys because of someone else's stupidity, people need to remember when your driving then that is what you are suppose to be doing not texting, not talking on a phone sometimes your stupidity causes someone else death and Trauma....Think about it.
lynn July 22, 2011 at 11:59 PM
loretta, I agree! The stretch where the accident happened is one long straight away, no curves at all. Apparently in all their other arrests, they learned absolutely NOTHING. It's past time to stop molly-coddling these people. It's just a sensless tragic occurance. My sympathy goes out to her family and the friends here who have posted.
Crystal Rivera-Olalde July 23, 2011 at 02:42 AM
any one can be involved in a accident even those with criminal history (If its true) Thats why its Called ACCIDENT_ Not ment to happen!!! instead of speculating PRAY FOR ALL INVOLVED EVEN The other passengers. There someones daughter and mother . I personally Wouldnt want to hear this if my child or mother was in critical condition. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW ALL THE FACTS AND ARE ON THE OUTSIDE STOP TALKING :)
JP Bee July 23, 2011 at 04:04 PM
Yes, Crystal (and Matt, and anonymous) - anyone can be involved in an accident. But, according to the law, a past record does legally have an affect on how this should be dealt with if they are found culpable. Sentencing is most definitely affected by a past history of criminal activity, making an extensive criminal record very relevant to this current investigation.

That car accident is really sad I totally feel for Mr. Dicocco he lost his wife samething happen to my father back in 1989 my mother was killed in a car accident but it was a police officer that killed her. So I can relate with how he must be feeling right now. As far as the girl Nicole that was driving the other car I personally know her and hopes she pulls through in the hospital. Mr. Dicocco and Nicole and everyone else that was involved on the accident will be on my prayers.
Cresta July 24, 2011 at 07:24 PM
Hold up so quick to judge thats whats wrong with people today you,all judge you dont kno what happen you was not in either of the cars when this happen so you cant speak but I guess thats what happens when you have people out there that think they no it all. What the hell does a criminal record have to do with anything you mean to tell me that if someone has a criminal record and gets in a car ACCIDENT they should be punished for that no they shouldnt there is a such thing as people do stupid things and they live and learn and they get there lives together. So if the shoe was on the other foot and you had a criminal record and u got into an accident and they was using that against you, you would be the first one to say thats not fair but since this has nothing to.do with you , your so quick to judge. You dont know that girl from a whole in the wall she could be the sweetest girl you ever met I bet if she was.your friend

Sorry but the People who turn left into Royal Farms are Not idiots! Yes people do need to think before they drive like the people who hit the so called idiots! The only reason there are accidents at this spot is because people fly around the corner from 22 onto 543 and are NOT paying attention!
Cresta July 24, 2011 at 11:50 PM
Go crystal
Matt July 26, 2011 at 02:16 AM
I'm not... following up on others comments and related dangerous driving in the nearby area. That intersection is far more dangerous than the FGSC.
Matt July 26, 2011 at 02:20 AM
missed my point- past bad behavior does not equal future guilt. If she was guilty of a crime (which I hear is likely), then pile it on. Until then, speculation is a waste of energy.
Angel July 27, 2011 at 05:11 PM
Nicole is my friend and has been for years and i know for fact that she would not doing anything to hurt anybody.she is in the hospital fighting for her life right now.she is badly hurt and has not fully woke up and it has been 6days.it breaks my heart for everybody that is involved.my heart goes out to the womans family.it is a horrible thing that happened.i am praying every day that nicole wakes up.he is a wonderful mother, wife and friend.all the things that people are saying dont really know her.i feel really bad for all the people that are acting the way they are right now.just remember in the end only god can judge us.i love u nicole and hang in there.

Police need your help with this accident: http://patch.com/A-k9r2
Angel July 28, 2011 at 03:12 PM
The police really need everybodys help right now so if you saw anything please call them.
Todd Holden July 28, 2011 at 04:52 PM
for the first time in memory, the Md. State Police issued a 'robo=call' asking for anyone with any information, videos or eye-witness accounts regarding the fatal at the Fountain Green Swim Club to please contact them. Obviously the police are doing all they can to resolve the fault issue. Thank God I was not near that terrible scene, but some of those who were should contact the MSP ASAP....while things are fresh in the mind.

I live in Foxborough Farms and I can guarantee speed was a factor in this crash. People do not realize how detrimental speed in a residential area can be. I have encountered near misses in this area on a frequent basis because people think that going 55mph (or greater) in a 40mph zone is okay. In fact I have been passed illegally (in the center turn lane) several times this past week because I wasn't going "fast enough" for people who think they are above the law. Whether people intend to speed or not they do. I would urge anyone driving through this area (or any other) to pay attention to the speed you are driving. My sympathies go out to all involved in this tragedy. Maybe a speed camera is the answer!
Brittney Frazier August 04, 2011 at 02:26 PM
I live off of 543 and at certain times of the day, I go to Wawa instead of Royal Farms...if it's the redbox I need, I hit the one at walgreens by safeway...I can make a big circle and it's a series of right turns for me
Brittney Frazier August 04, 2011 at 02:31 PM
I think the issue is more of a speed tolerance thing. My daughter said that a state trooper told the kids at her school that 15 mph over the speed limit was tolerable....that's ridiculous. There should be a no tolerance law in place for certain areas.
JESSICA August 08, 2011 at 02:45 PM
um well i know the girls what were in the car. the passenger is one of my close friends and i can tell you that there was no phone involved. it was purely an accident
annonymous October 05, 2011 at 04:56 PM
Do we know who was at fault for this accident and if charges are being brought against anyone?
Bridget Merryman June 04, 2013 at 07:16 AM
It is so sad that a woman had to lose her life because Nicole decided it was okay to drive under the influence of illegal drugs
