Harford County Breaks Ground On New Emergency Operations Center

Construction officially began on the new Harford County Emergency Services facility Sunday.

Harford County officially began construction on a new department of emergency services facility with a groundbreaking ceremony Sunday.

The $45 million project will be completed in two phases, according to a release from Harford County Government. The first phase will encompass a 66,000 square foot building to house the emergency operations and communications offices as well as administrative offices, the release states.

The second phase includes a 50,000 square foot space that will hold the Harford County Hazmat Team and the radio shop, according to the release.

“Harford County has been a fire service leader for many years. The Department of Emergency Services works closely with a number of stakeholders in the public safety community and will soon have a facility our citizens can be proud of with the taxes they provide for this vital project,” Harford County Executive David Craig said in the release.

The current emergency facility was built at 2220 Ady Road almost 52 years ago, officials say. The new facility will be built in the same area.

More than 100 people attended the ceremony, according to the county release.
