No Candidates Have Filed for Bel Air Election

The elections take place every two years to fill the Board of Commissioners' five seats.

At least two Bel Air commissioners said earlier this year they will run for reelection. As of Thursday, however, no one has filed for candidacy at Town Hall.

The four-year terms of Terence Hanley, Edward Hopkins and Robert Reier expire this fall. Hanley and Hopkins told Patch in May they plan to run again, while Reier said he was undecided.

Maxwell Rash, a 21-year-old real estate agent, said he will not run after earlier declaring he would challenge for a seat on the five-member board.

"I feel that the residents of Bel Air and citizens as a whole are not ready for major cuts. They're serious about spending but no one seems to want to cut their budget," Rash wrote in a text message. "Local and national politicians are concerned about profit maximize [sic]. I'm more concerned with government enabling people to succeed and limit government control."

Rash said he supports Hanley for reelection.

The terms of Robert Preston and Mayor David Carey will expire in 2013.

The filing deadline is Oct. 7 and the election is scheduled for Nov. 8. Candidates must be registered voters and have lived within town limits for at least six months prior to the election.

Town Hall will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 7 to allow for late filing. There is a $25 fee.

Residents can check their voter registration status by calling the Harford County Board of Elections at 410-638-3565.
