Thornton, Browning to Complete Harford Board of Education

Spokeswoman: O'Malley names final two members.

The final two members of the Harford County Board of Education have been named in time for Monday’s swearing-in ceremony.

James Thornton and Ronald Browning, both of Harford County, will be among seven members sworn in Monday, according to Raquel Guillory, a spokeswoman for Gov. Martin O’Malley.

The board capacity will reach nine for the first time in its history after the 3 p.m. ceremony in the A.A. Roberty Building.

Joining Leonard Wheeler and Alysson Krchnavy—the two longest-tenured members, both appointed in 2008—will be Rick Grambo and Robert Frisch, who were elected to the board in the fall but have been serving in an appointed capacity. Both will be sworn in for the second time. Cassandra Beverley is set to join the board as the third and final elected member.

The board began its transition to a hybrid of elected and appointed members in the fall election.

Joseph Hau and Nancy Reynolds, , will also be sworn in, along with Thornton and Browning.

The board is also scheduled for vote for a president and vice president, as . Wheeler currently serves as vice president.

Thornton owns Thornwood Real Estate, is on the Board of Trustees for the Baltimore Museum of Art and is “known for his ability to manage hard-performing organizations,” Guillory told Patch on Friday.

Browning owns —a bed and breakfast in Havre de Grace, where he lives—and is the chair of the Havre de Grace Historic Preservation commission. He formerly taught in the Baltimore County Public Schools system.
