The board also reappointed Conrad Gagnon to planning's Tree Committee.

"Conrad's done a great job. He attends meetings and he's very enthusiastic about his position," Commissioner Robert Preston stated.

Three election judges— Bill Clark, Priscilla Jindra and Virginia Ostheimer and an alternate judge—Dina Boebel—were reappointed to four-year terms.

The board unanimously approved a $164,400 contract to Frank J. Goettner Construction of Kingsville for resurfacing several town streets. The company's bid beat out three other firms for work that will resurface the following roads:

—Courtland Place between Sharmrock Road and Lee Way

—Langford Place between Courtland Place and Lee Way

—McCormick Street between Lee Way and Broadway

—Wright Street between Hickory Avenue and McCormick Street

—Reed Street between Thomas Street and Catherine Street.

The contract will be paid from the Department of Public Works, which will also be spending another $88,168 for other street projects starting in the spring, said Steve Klein, deputy director of public works.

Klein estimated that Frank J. Goettner Construction's work will take less than a month to complete.

In public announcements, Carey noted, among other things, this weekend's Child Safety Fair.

In the Commissioners' comments, Edward Hopkins announced the Fire Company's open house Sunday and also asked that citizens to check that they have properly-operating smoke detectors.

Carey announced that from now until the end of December the town's Department of Public Works will pick up loose leaves once a week with no call-in necessary. The town asks that the leaves are raked to the curb but not into the roadway to prevent drain clogs. The town will also pick up bagged leaves once a week during the same period with no call-in necessary. For regulations and other collection information check the DPW section of the town's site here.

Collection takes place on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday, depending on a resident's location. Check your various pick-up dates for Sections 1 and 2 and Sections 3 and 4 of town. (Documents also available under story photos.)

The next town meeting will be held Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
