President, Vice President Selected; 5 New Members Begin Terms

The Harford County Board of Education is scheduled to vote for a new president and vice president Monday.

8:16 p.m. The meeting is adjourned.

8:15 p.m. Board President Leonard Wheeler asked about the integrity of Harford County's test scores based on recent cheating accusations across the country.

Lawrence responded that integrity is in tact throughout the county school system.

8:04 p.m. Associate Superintendent of Curriculum Bill Lawrence is presenting data on the . Superintendent Robert Tomback stressed that the presentation was based on preliminary analysis.

7:57 p.m. Board member Robert Frisch is asking Licata a number of questions about the costs of some of the projects. He is concerned about how some of the estimations were made.

7:43 p.m. The John Archer School addition at Bel Air Middle School is on the list. It will not have to be attached to Bel Air middle as originally required by the state.

7:40 p.m. "We believe that the capacity issues for the immediate future have been satisfied," Licata said.

For that reason, the school will focus more on improvements and renovations in the next fiscal year.

7:36 p.m. Chief Administrative Officer Joseph Licata is previewing the proposed Capital Improvement Program Request for fiscal year 2013.

The priority list will be reviewed throughout the summer, he said.

7:30 p.m. The rest of the new board members spoke briefly about their new positions. For coverage of .

7:28 p.m. Krchnavy congratulated the new members.

"It's a job inside your head I'm sure you're going to quit about 50 times, but you're not ever allowed to do it in public.

7:22 p.m. The 2011 Annual Custodial Awards Program presentation is taking place. The custodial staffs being recognized are from:

  • Dublin Elementary School
  • North Bend Elementary School
  • Roye-Williams Elementary School
  • Fallston Middle School

7:16 p.m. There was a short break in the meeting to change the dais title plate for Wheeler from "Vice President" to "President" and for Grambo's to be changed from "Member" to "Vice President."

7:15 p.m. Student-elect Cofrancesco spoke briefly after he was sworn in.

"I’m very honored to be on this position," Cofrancesco said. "I’ve done quite a bit of work with the previous student representative."

He added: "I’m going to try to hardest. It’s going to be tough going into [Caitlin Dooling's] shoes.

"...I hope that I can do a real good job in this position"

7:13 p.m. Wheeler and Grambo both thanked their fellow board members for selecting them.

“I’m quite excited about the role I’m about to play,” Wheeler said.

"I'm humbled and honored that my colleagues on the board have chosen me for a leadership role," Grambo said.

7:08 p.m. Havre de Grace High School's Tony Cofrancesco has been sworn in to his position as the board's student representative.

7:06 p.m. Leonard Wheeler and Rick Grambo have been selected as president and vice president, respectively, of the board.

7:02 p.m. The meeting is underway. There are nine members on the Board of Education for the first time in Harford County history.
