Arch-rivals: Catholic Counterparts Wager on Ravens-Steelers

The Archbishop of Baltimore and the Bishop of Pittsburgh put something on the line Saturday.

When the Steelers and Ravens take the field Saturday, more will be on the line than a trip to the AFC Championship game.

Baltimore Archbishop Edwin O'Brien and Pittsburgh Bishop David Zubik have agreed to make a donation to their counterpart's charity of choice should their hometown team win.

“I am looking forward to delivering Bishop Zubik’s check to Our Daily Bread after the Ravens beat the Steelers Saturday and move on to the AFC Championship game,” O’Brien said in a statement. “I have great faith that coach Harbaugh, a product of Catholic schools, will have his team well-prepared for the game and the Ravens will move one step closer to the Super Bowl!”

O'Brien departed the United States for Rome on Thursday, but a spokesman for the archdiocese said O'Brien still hopes to see the game. If the Steelers win, O’Brien will make a donation to Catholic Charities of Pittsburgh.

Zubik added that if the Ravens lose, O'Brien should wear a Steelers jersey and root for the Steelers through the Super Bowl. Zubik has agreed to root for the Ravens and wear their jersey if they win.

"Though I can’t imagine where in the greater Pittsburgh area that I would be able to find a Ravens jersey," he said in a statement.
